Win for The Wessex at Mid Somerset Festival

The Wessex is recognised as being one of the premier UK male choirs, partly because of its enviable track record in competitions. It further cemented its reputation by achieving a first and second place at the recent Mid Somerset festival. Under the inspirational leadership of MD Tom Graff, The Wessex saw off stiff competition from some excellent male and female choirs, achieving distinctions in both classes entered. I’m sure Christine, our sadly missed accompanist, would have been delighted, and we dedicate our trophy to her memory. The adjudicator particularly noted the professionalism of the choir and praised it’s ability to perform contrasting style of repertoire to a high standard.  Particularly pleasing was the observation that The Wessex had overcome the significant challenges which typically bedevil Male choirs. The success was even more praiseworthy, given that almost a third of the choir were taking part in their first competition. Their enthusiasm and dedication augurs well for the choir, as it moves onto our next competition at the Bangor International Choral Festival in April.
